Frequently Asked Questions

Q: If I finish this program, am I automatically a supervisor?

A: No. The 40 hour LPC/LMFT Supervisor Course is not a certification course. Upon completing this program, participants seeking the clinical supervisor credential must still meet the criteria mandated in their state regulations, apply, and pay all applicable fees. State licensing boards have ultimate jurisdiction.

Q: Is this course approved by the Texas LPC/LMFT licensing boards? I remember that courses must be taught by approved providers only.

A: There is long answer to this:

  • In 2019 the law requiring the 40 hour LPC supervisor training to be offered only by an approved provider was eliminated. Now, neither the LPC nor the LMFT board approves CE providers or supervisor training courses.

  • In 2023-2024 the licensing boards established 'approved provider types' that help consumers meet the 50% rule requirements. This Kate Walker Training course is taught by an approved provider type and will meet the 50% rule requirement.

  • The hybrid version of this 40 hour LPC/LMFT Supervisor Course was audited and approved by the Texas LPC Board in 2016.

  • The LPC board requires the course instructor to be a LPC Supervisor and Dr. Walker is a LPC Supervisor and LMFT Supervisor. She is also a NBCC approved provider for asynchronous delivery.

The Texas LPC regulations require LPC Supervisor training courses to meet certain criteria. We encourage you to preview the Syllabus so you can see exactly how the Kate Walker Training 40 Hour LPC LMFT Supervisor Training meets or exceeds Texas LPC and LMFT standards.

Q: I didn't think we could take the 40 hour LPC LMFT Supervisor Course completely online. Did that law change too?

A: It did indeed in 2019.

Q: Other courses offer free tools and resources after participants graduate. Does this course?

A: Graduates of the Pro and Elite courses get a subscription to the Step it UP membership that includes:

  • Free listing in the Texas Supervisor Training Supervisor Directory.

  • Tools, templates, and resources

  • Unlimited supervisor-specific CEs

  • Tickets to The Texas Supervisor Coalition monthly live virtual consultation group meetings for up to 14 supervisor-specific (and other topics as advertised) CEs.

  • Weekly live group coaching

Graduates of the Basic course have access to the Texas Supervisor Coalition Facebook Group.

Q: I have been a fully licensed Texas LPC for three years. I can be a supervisor, right?

A: It is up to the LPC board, but LPC rules stipulate you must hold your LPC license for five years before they will process your LPC Supervisor application. If you are a Texas LPC, only take this Supervisor Course if, upon successful completion, you can say either:

  • I have been licensed five years

or

  • I have been licensed three years and I will submit my Course certificate in two years.

Q: How long must I hold my LMFT license before I can apply for my LMFT Supervisor designation?

A: It is up to the LMFT board, but LMFT rules stipulate you must have documented at least 3,000 hours of LMFT practice over a minimum of 3 years before they will process your LMFT Supervisor application. Only take this 40 hour LPC LMFT Supervisor Course if, upon successful completion you can say:

  • I can document at least 3,000 hours of LMFT practice over a minimum of 3 years

Q: How long do I have to complete the 40 Hour LPC LMFT Supervisor Training and be eligible for the supervisor designation?

A: Both LPC and LMFT boards have aligned and specify you have 90 days to complete the course requirements. At Kate Walker Training we start the 90 day clock when you purchase the course (or use your course voucher if your course was purchased for you by someone else).

If you complete the course in 90 days or less, your certificate will look like this:

If you finish all the assignments in more than 90 days your certificate will look like this:

Q: I signed up for the course and it has been 89 days and I don’t think I’m going to finish in time. What happens if I don’t?

A: We start the clock when you purchase the course and we cannot extend the time.

Q: I turned everything in on day 89. If my instructor takes too long to check my work can I get an extension/refund/discount?

A: No. Graders have up to 10 business days per assignment to verify your work. We recommend you turn in your last assignment no less than 10 days before your your course ends.

Q: I purchased the 40 hour LPC LMFT Supervisor Course and I realize now I just don’t have time. Can I get a refund?

A: Unfortunately no. The 40 hour LPC LMFT Supervisor Course is non-refundable because the material is considered to be ‘consumed’ as soon as you purchase it. Please see our terms and conditions regarding the purchase of e-goods.

Q: If I don't finish in 90 days, can I just re-purchase this course again?

A: You cannot purchase the same course multiple times. You can, however, wait until the revised course is released and purchase it.

Q: But I thought when I purchased the course I was purchasing the certificate?

A: No. When you purchase this course you are NOT purchasing a certificate. Rather you are purchasing an opportunity to earn a certificate.

Lack of integrity/cheating/being disrespectful to graders will result in immediate removal from the course and legal action if necessary. Some examples of cheating/lack of integrity are:

  • Disputing charges if you are on a payment plan or fail to earn a certificate

  • Re-purchasing the course under another email if you failed to earn a certificate

  • Plagiarism

Q: I didn't pass one of the quizzes. Did I fail the course?

A: No. The completion of a home study program must be verified by the completion of an assessment or quiz demonstrating that the participant completed the program. According to NBCC requirements, the quiz should be difficult enough to assess learning but should not be designed to trick or overly burden the participant. If you fail a quiz you'll have an opportunity to go back and review the material, and retake the quiz, and pass the course.

Q: I'm not great at technology. Should I take this course?

A: Online courses aren’t for everyone.

Without the right equipment and software, they can be downright frustrating. Here are some things we’ve learned from our community over the years that might help.
For the best online experience…equipment, operating systems, and updates matter.

Please make sure your operating system on your device is the latest version. Be sure to update your browser, word processing applications, and whatever applications you plan to use.

If you discover your operating system is no longer supported, please do not purchase this course until you are able to access a device with a valid operating system.

We use file uploads (pdf, word doc, Google doc), Google Forms, and video links.

You don't need to be a computer expert, but you must know how to save files, upload files, use Google Forms, and create a video with your phone or with Zoom.

Our support staff can walk you through the basics, but they are not trained in IT support.
