Q: If I finish this program, am I automatically a supervisor?

A: No. The 20 Hour LPC/LMFT Supervisor Course is not a certification course. Upon completing this program, participants seeking the clinical supervisor credential must still meet the criteria mandated in their state regulations, apply, and pay all applicable fees. State licensing boards have ultimate jurisdiction.

Q: Is this course approved by the Virginia licensing board?

A: Dr. Walker is a NBCC approved provider (ACEP#7040). From the Virginia Department of Health Professions Board of Counseling 18VAC115-20-106. Continuing competency activity criteria:

B. Approved hours of continuing competency activity shall be one of the following types:

1. Formally organized learning activities or home study. Activities may be counted at their full hour value. Hours shall be obtained from one or a combination of the following board-approved, mental health-related activities:

a. Regionally accredited university or college level academic courses in a behavioral health discipline.

b. Continuing education programs offered by universities or colleges.

c. Workshops, seminars, conferences, or courses in the behavioral health field offered by federal, state, or local governmental agencies or licensed health facilities and licensed hospitals.

d. Workshops, seminars, conferences, or courses in the behavioral health field offered by an individual or organization that has been certified or approved by one of the following:

(1) The International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors and its state affiliates.

(2) The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and its state affiliates.

(3) The American Association of State Counseling Boards.

(4) The American Counseling Association and its state and local affiliates.

(5) The American Psychological Association and its state affiliates.

(6) The Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification.

(7) NAADAC, The Association for Addiction Professionals and its state and local affiliates.

(8) National Association of Social Workers.

(9) National Board for Certified Counselors.

(10) A national behavioral health organization or certification body.

Q: What are the other requirements to be a Clinical Supervisor in Virginia?

A: From From the Virginia Department of Health Professions Board of Counseling Supervisor Summit September 7, 2018:

Virginia licensee with an active, unrestricted license in the jurisdiction where supervision is being provided, with at least two (2) years of post-licensure clinical experience (post-licensure clinical practice experience in another jurisdiction can be considered toward the 2 year requirement)

• LPC’s can supervise Residents in Counseling, Residents in Marriage and Family Therapy, Residents in Substance Abuse Treatment and CSAC Supervisees

• LMFT’s can supervise Residents in Counseling and Residents in Marriage and Family Therapy and CSAC Supervisees

• LSATP’s can supervise Residents in Substance Abuse Treatment and CSAC Supervisees

• Provide documentation of professional training in supervision

• Three (3) semester credit or four (4) quarter credit hours in supervision, or at least 20 hours of continuing education in supervision

• CE provider must meet the same requirements for renewal CE’s

Sign the residency application to supervise a specific Resident and submit your supervision training documentation.

OR

Complete the “Supervisor Approval Application” located under the website under the “Supervisor Information” tab and submit it to the Board along with a hard copy of your documentation of supervision training.

NOTE: Once a licensee’s supervision application is approved, or he/she is approved for supervision of a specific Resident, the licensee is added to the supervisor registry. This registry is located on the Board of Counseling website at www.dhp.virginia.gov/Counseling and is updated quarterly.

Q: I purchased the Supervisor Course and I realize now I just don’t have time. Can I get a refund?

A: Unfortunately no. The Supervisor Course is non-refundable because the material is considered to be ‘consumed’ as soon as you purchase it. Please see our terms and conditions regarding the purchase of e-goods.

Q: But I thought when I purchased the course I was purchasing the certificate?

A: No. When you purchase this course you are NOT purchasing a certificate. Rather you are purchasing an opportunity to earn a certificate.

Lack of integrity/cheating/being disrespectful to graders will result in immediate removal from the course and legal action if necessary. Some examples of cheating/lack of integrity are:

  • Disputing charges if you are on a payment plan or fail to earn a certificate 

  • Re-purchasing the course under another email if you failed to earn a certificate

  • Plagiarism 

Q: I didn't pass one of the quizzes. Did I fail the course?

A: No. The completion of a home study program must be verified by the completion of an assessment or quiz demonstrating that the participant completed the program. According to NBCC requirements, the quiz should be difficult enough to assess learning but should not be designed to trick or overly burden the participant. If you fail a quiz you'll have an opportunity to go back and review the material, and retake the quiz, and pass the course.

Q: I'm not great at technology. Should I take this course?

A: Online courses aren’t for everyone.

For the best online experience…equipment, operating systems, and updates matter.

Please make sure your operating system on your device is the latest version. Be sure to update your browser, word processing applications, and whatever applications you plan to use.

If you discover your operating system is no longer supported, please do not purchase this course until you are able to access a device with a valid operating system.

We use file uploads (pdf, word doc, Google doc), Google Forms, and video links.

You don't need to be a computer expert, but you must know how to save files, upload files, use Google Forms, and create a video with your phone or with Zoom.

Our support staff can walk you through the basics, but they are not trained in IT support.
