Q: Is this course approved by the Alaska LCSW licensing board?

A: The short answer is yes!

The longer answer is:

The Alaska Social Work Board has made some changes recently:

"12 AAC 18.113. Clinical supervisor requirements, was adopted to create regulations and guidelines for clinical supervisors to start after June 30, 2026, including a minimum amount of experience and continuing education requirements."

This rule states:

"For a licensing period that begins after June 30, 2026,

(1) clinical supervision may only be provided by a clinical social worker, psychologist, or psychiatrist who(A) has not less than three years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker, psychologist, or psychiatrist;(B) holds an unrestricted license to practice clinical social work, psychology, or psychiatry in the state or other licensing jurisdiction during the period of supervision; and(C) has completed not less than six hours of continuing education in supervision or supervisory practices; and

(2) a clinical supervisor shall complete an additional six hours of continuing education in supervision or supervisory practices during each biennial licensing period."

So, Alaska social workers, in order to provide supervision for clinical licensure, will need 6 hours of CEs, and 6 hours of CEs every two years thereafter to remain a supervisor in good standing with the board.

State law 12 AAC 18.220 has criteria for continuing education providers. We met criteria (b) (5) seminars, workshops, or mini-courses offered by professional organizations.
