Virginia Clinical Supervisor Training

20-Hour Asynchronous Continuing Education Course

Course Overview

This 20-hour asynchronous continuing education course is designed for licensed mental health professionals who intend to pursue board-approved clinical supervisor status in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Virginia requires licensees seeking approval to supervise Residents in Counseling or Residents in Marriage and Family Therapy to complete a minimum of 20 hours of professional training in supervision. This course is structured to meet that requirement and aligns with the Virginia Board of Counseling’s expectations for supervision training and continuing competency.

The program focuses on the core competencies of effective and compliant clinical supervision, including supervision models, ethical and legal responsibilities, documentation and evaluation, remediation, and technology-assisted supervision. Emphasis is placed on building supervision systems that protect the supervisor’s license while supporting supervisee development and public safety.

This course is delivered in a fully online, self-paced format and is intended for licensed professionals seeking supervision training that is clear, practical, and aligned with Virginia standards.
