Program Description

This program is designed to help participants review ethics of the supervisory relationship, social work development, developmental models of supervision and NASW/ASWB best practices, and ethical and legal issues in supervision, culminating in a demonstration of understanding by passing quizzes.

Program Learning Objectives

The program content will:

1.      Identify key elements impacting the supervisory relationship and social work development including the dynamics of the supervisory dyad and triad.

2.      Explain well-established social work theories principles and techniques of counseling and their application in mental health settings and in the supervisor-trainee relationship.

3.      Explore factors that lead to supervisee resistance and supervisor-trainee relationship rupture.

4.      Describe specific ethical remediation actions supervisors can take to repair relationships and remediate trainees.

5.      Explore NASW/ASWB Best Practices in Supervision and Technology

6.      Offer information so participants can successfully pass a quiz over the topics covered in this course.

Program Goals

Participants successfully completing this nine-hour course will:

1.      Understand the elements impacting the ethical supervisory relationship and how to build an ethical relationship with a trainee that fosters trust and openness.

2.      Frame supervisory behavior in light of several factors including phases of the relationship, the supervision contract, and the supervisory dyad and triad.

3.      Know the factors that lead to trainee resistance and how to intervene while being mindful of the relationship.

4.      Complete a quiz demonstrating confident application and understanding of foundational and well-established counseling theories and their application in the supervisor-trainee relationship.

Program Requirements

1.      This program is directly and primarily about a topic related to the practice of clinical social work.

2.      Program information includes a clear statement of the program learning objectives requirement.

3.      This is an advanced course for licensed clinical social workers and licensed clinical social work supervisors with a master’s or doctoral degree in social work.

4.      This program was designed by Ashley Durbin, LCSW-S, and Kate M. Walker, a licensed mental health professional with the necessary experience and knowledge in the topic(s) presented. Dr. Durbin holds a Ph.D. in Industrial & Organizational Psychology and a Masters in Social Work and is a board-designated supervisor and clinical social worker. Dr. Walker holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education, and she is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor.

5.      We provide participants with a mechanism for evaluating our programs.

6.      We provide participants who successfully complete the program with a certificate displaying the licensee's name, program title, date course was completed, the number of ASWB hours awarded (for applicable programs), the name and signature of the approved continuing education provider along with the ASWB ACE number and contact information, including mailing address, telephone number, e-mail address and website address.

7.      Programs that do not qualify for ASWB credit are clearly identified.

8.      We keep all continuing education records of attendance on file for six years (or more) and records are available upon written request.

Continuing Education Information

This course provides nine hours of continuing education in a non-interactive, asynchronous, home study format. Home study course hours are calculated via written text (6000 words = one hour) and video (one hour = one hour).

Your certificate will indicate:

· ASWB Hours: 9

· Supervision CE Hours: 9

· Ethics CE Hours: 6

Kate Walker Training, LLC, #2821, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: July 8, 2026 - July 8, 2027. Social workers completing this course receive 6 total credits, including 3 clinical and 3 ethics continuing education credits.

QUIZ POLICY AND MINIMUM PASSING SCORE

Participants must achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on each quiz in order to receive credit for that lesson. There is no limit on the number of retakes — participants may retake a quiz as many times as needed in order to pass.

The completion of a home study program must be verified by the completion of an assessment or quiz demonstrating that the participant completed the program. According to continuing education requirements, the quiz should be difficult enough to assess learning but should not be designed to trick or overly burden the participant. If you fail a quiz, you’ll have an opportunity to go back and review the material, and retake the quiz, and pass the course.
